Pasadena is not just the Rose Bowl Parade or the site of the prestigious California Institute of Technology.
It is a town with an old European flair, where you can walk and be part of the hustle and bustle. If you have
not been there for a while, now is the time to re-explore it. Our tour will take you through different districts
where you can admire the splendid architecture, most dating back to the beginning of the 20th century.
The population boom of that era happily coincided with the Craftsman movement. Many of the
homes and bungalows are still standing, a beautiful reminder of the past. One of the most famous is
the Gamble house (of the famous Proctor and Gamble empire), which still retains all of its
original furnishings.
You then will have time to stroll or have lunch in Old Pasadena before continuing for your visit to
the NORTON SIMON MUSEUM, set in the center of a beautiful SCULPTURE GARDEN
surrounding a lily pond. The museum has a collection of art for every taste: 14th-18th century masterpieces
such as Raphael, Botticelli, El Greco, Poussin and Rembrandt; the 19th century with its large
collection of Impressionists including Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh and Cézanne as well as more
than one hundred Degas’ works of art. The 20th century is on display too with work by Picasso,
Diego Rivera, Matisse and many more no less important. Also proudly displayed is a gorgeous
selection of South Asian sculptures.
After this visit, you may just have seen “ the greatest painting collection in the Western United States”
as quoted in the Los Angeles Times Magazine.
